Beautifully crafted pyxis dish
Pyxis made of bones with the image of a golden ivy leaf. Pyxis was a vessel with a lid used in Greek and Roman culture. Jewelry and toiletries were kept there.
Ivy leaf in ancient times was attributed to Apollo and Bacchus as a symbol of life. In early Christianity, it was considered a symbol of eternal life. Certainly the vessel belonged to a rich and significant person.
The artifact was found along with the knife and spindle. The object is 7 cm high and approx. 4 cm in diameter. The object is dated from the 1st-5th century CE.
