Electoral slogan from Pompeii

On the walls of ancient buildings in Pompeii, amazing inscriptions revealing the lives of residents, as well as electoral slogans, have been preserved. On one of the wall over there is preserved a slogan encouraging to vote on Helvius Sabinus.

The inscription on the wall reads: Helvium Sabinum; aedilem d(ignum) r(ei) p(ublicae) v(irum) b(onum) o(ro) v(os) f(aciatis), or “I beg you to elect Helvius Sabinus aedile, worthy of public office”.

According to the researchers, the election slogan was painted on the wall, which was first covered with white paint to hide earlier writings.
