Fragment of Roman mosaic showing transport of captured wild animals
Fragment of the Roman floor mosaic showing the transport of captured wild animals that were to occur in the arena. The mosaic is located in Villa Romana del Casale in Sicily and consists of many hunting scenes in North Africa.
In the eastern parts of the Roman Empire, wild animals were transported in carts that pulled bulls. The guardian of the animals was a slave, accompanied by soldiers who moved either on foot or on horseback.
