Fulcrum - ancient bed ornament
Roman ornaments of a bed or a couch (wedge) in the shape of a horse’s head. The object is dated to the 1st BCE – 1st century CE and was found in Pompeii.
This type of decoration was called in Latin, in Greek and Roman cultures, fulcrum. Such an element was attached to wooden parts of furniture. Decorations were almost always made of metal, although there were also elements of stone or ivory.
