Junius - slave from mosaic
Roman mosaic from Pompeii showing a boy with name Junius in a kitchen with fruit and fish. Now in the Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg. Dated back to 1st century CE.
In fact, the mosaic shows the personification of June. The object shows still life; author highlighted the fertility of nature in summer and the rich gifts of the sea. The mosaic is part of a large calendar composition with allegorical images of all months, earth, sun and moon.
