Keraunia or “stone of thunder”

Stone axe blade from antiquity (the so-called Keraunia or “thunder stone”). The object is dated to the 2nd-3rd century CE.
Object is engraved with Greek letters that create a magical inscription with a love or protective charm. Objects of this type were seen in antiquity as magical artifacts. Pliny the Elder describes such axes as Keraunia, because it was believed that they were found in places where lightning struck.
