Roman mosaic found at Carnuntum, Austria, depicting Mercury and Fortune. Mercury, the messenger of the gods, guardian of travellers, traders and thieves, holds a caduceus (a staff carried by Greek officials; an attribute of the gods) and a purse of money.
The rooster, the sacred animal of Mercury, stands next to him. Fortune, the goddess of fortune, prosperity holds the helm and the cornucopia.
