Preserved remains of Roman fort

Preserved remains of the Roman small fort Kinnel, which was part of the fortifications of the Antoninus’ Wall in northern Britain.

There were 17 such forts in total and they served as border points or observation points through which trade routes passed. Both the Antoninus wall and the fortifications were over 3 meters high. The area of the fort was small, therefore the ground inside the fortifications remained in the shade practically all the time.

This type of fort was able to accommodate about 30 soldiers, who until the arrival of support from the hinterland were to stop all threats.

The photos show the outline of the outpost, a section of the Roman road on the north/south axis, and a field perched on part of an ancient rampart.
