Roman mosaic showing Christ
Roman mosaic, which may be the oldest preserved image of Christ. The property comes from a Roman villa in county Dorset in southern England.
Christ is depicted as a smooth-shaven man in tunic and cloak. Behind him are the first two letters of the Greek word Christos, chi (X) and rho (P). The object is dated to the 4th century CE.
