Unique fresco showing kidnapping of Cassandra

Roman fresco showing Ajax, so-called “Little”, kidnapping Cassandra (the daughter of King of Troy, Priam), who sought shelter at the foot of the wooden statue of Athena (so-called palladium or palladium). Ajax was also supposed to allow a rape on a woman.

Cassandra was able to foretell the future, but the curse that was thrown at her caused that nobody believed her. Thus, her announcements about the fall of Troy were neglected.

A great work can be found at Casa del Menandro in Pompeii.
