Iustitia (Justitia) was the personification of justice. Identified with the Greek Dike or Themis. Its first prototype was the Egyptian goddess Maat, and later Isis. Presented as a woman in a long robe, with a blindfold over her eyes, leaning on a spear or a sword, holding a scale in her hand, or scales (law and justice) in her hands.
It was believed that in the golden age she lived on earth, and then, with the increase in human wickedness, she went to the heavens, becoming a constellation of Virgo.
