Roman altar, now called the Carrick Stone, which is located in Scotland. The object is dated to the 60s of the 2nd century CE. It is located halfway between Glasgow and Falkirk, close to Antoninus’ wall.
It is not known what deity it was dedicated to. There are traces of red and blue paint on the object.
Interestingly, according to medieval legend, Robert de Bruce, who was also known as Lord Carrick (hence the name of the object), was supposed to “raise” the banner of Scotland in the place of the altar and take command of the Scottish army. This is also where he prayed before the Battle of Bannockburn, which took place nearby on June 23-24, 1314.
