Vindolanda Trust
During the recently conducted excavations in Vindolanda, next to the remains of the Hadrian’s wall (northern England) a cracked stone board for playing ludus latrunculorum was discovered.
The object was found in one of the forts – dated back to the 3rd century CE. The game board was a popular entertainment for soldiers during their free time.
This is not the only such discovery in Vindolanda. Five other boards (dated to the 3rd and 5th centuries CE) along with glass and stone tokens were found in this area.
