List of Roman cohorts that were established in the history of ancient Rome.

Cohorts numbered I

  • ALPINORUM EQUITATA – was part of the 7th Gemina Felix Legion in 86 CE
  • ALPINORUM PEDITATA – was part of the 7th Gemina Felix Legion in 86 CE
  • FLAVIA COMMAGENORUM – maybe it was a standalone cohort, but that’s not sure. She served in Dacia Inferior under the command of Aquila Fidus in 161 CE, when Antoninus Pius was the emperor. These cohorts were mentioned as very meritorious on two plates of military diplomas (diplomata militaria) found in northern Bulgaria in 1956. This diploma mentions the ala of the Illyrian riders – AND ASTURUM, AND HISPANORUM, AND CLAUDIA GALLORUM CAPITONIANA.
  • BRACARAUGUSTANORUM – maybe it was a standalone cohort, but that’s not for sure. She served in Dacia Inferior under the command of Aquila Fidus in 161 CE, when Antoninus Pius was the emperor. These cohorts were mentioned as very meritorious on two plates of military diplomas (diplomata militaria) found in northern Bulgaria in 1956. This diploma mentions the ala of the Illyrian Riders – AND ASTURUM, AND HISPANORUM, AND CLAUDIA GALLORUM CAPITONIANA.

  • MONTANORUM c.R.
  • NORICORUM EQUITATA
  • TYRORIUM SYGITTARIORUM – it may have been a standalone cohort, but that’s not for sure. These cohorts were mentioned as very meritorious on two plates of military diplomas (diplomata militaria) found in northern Bulgaria in 1956. This diploma mentions the ala of the Illyrian riders –

  • AUGUSTA NERVIA PACENSIS BRITTONUM MILLIARIA – it may have been a standalone cohort, but that’s not for sure.   • EQUITATA – an independent cohort that was stationed at a fort in Austria, in the present-day Kastel Kunzig.

  • TUNGRIANS – the border cohort under Emperor Hadrian. She may have been independent, but that’s not certain. The cohort at that time was commanded by Titus Annius, who fell. He was buried in Vindoland.
  • BOSPORANORUM – cohort operating within the XII Fulminata legion.
  • ALA NORICORUM
