Donuts

It is said that donuts were already loved by the ancient Romans, who spent the last days of the carnival partying and eating (the so-called Bacchanalia). In this way, the departure of winter and the arrival of spring were celebrated.

The donuts served by ancient Romans were nothing like our contemporaries. They were fried strips of dough smeared with honey or fish sauce.

The Romans celebrated the so-called fat day when they could eat their delicacies to their heart’s content and thus said goodbye to winter.
