Roman baths in Marsala

In the northwest of the Lilybaeum Archaeological Park, there are remains of the Roman baths from the 3rd-2nd century BCE. Archaeologists also found traces of an older defensive structure on which baths were built.

Currently, only the remains of hypocaustum with praefurnium (heating furnace) – that is, under-floor heating system – are visible in the archaeological park. The thermal baths certainly had a hot water pool (caldarium) and warm water (tepidarium).

The floor in the baths was covered with small white pebbles (tesserae) and fragments of marble slabs – only small fragments have survived.

The object is located in the Parco Archeologico di Lilibeo in Marsala (Sicily).
