2,000-year-old Roman mosaic was discovered

2,000-year-old Roman mosaic was discovered | Photo: English Heritage

The discovery occurred during excavations in Wroxeter, western England. The mosaic depicts a fish and a sea scene, which is made of green, blue, yellow and red cubes.

The present village of Wroxeter was called Viriconium in Roman times. The center was established in the 90s of the 1st century CE and was similar in size to Pompeii. At its peak, the city had over 200 houses, a public bath, a market and public buildings.
