In 2020 Roman mosaic was discovered in Weyregg am Attersee

In 2020, a Roman mosaic was discovered in Weyregg am Attersee (approximately 60 km east of Salzburg, Austria). The artifact adorned a luxurious Roman villa from the 2nd-3rd century CE. According to experts, it is the largest Roman mosaic discovered in Upper Austria.

The villa was decorated with beautiful mosaic floor tiles and murals. The discovered mosaic with simple geometric patterns could be even 110 square meters, and only 31 square meters remained. The building overlooked the lake. Apart from the homestead, the villa consisted of a whole complex of various auxiliary buildings and a courtyard.
