Roman fort with Christian relics was found in northern England

In 2015, in Binchester, County Durham, UK, further discoveries were made at an extraordinary Roman fort. The silver ring found in it may be evidence of early signs of Christianity in Roman Britain. Archaeologists also discovered a 2-meter-high bathhouse.

After excavating the spectacular bathhouse, archaeologists named Fort Binchester “the Pompeii of the North”. The walls of the bathhouse, as well as the recreational space, have been covered with bright colours and patterns. The find includes an unusual floor, door and window openings, and an altar for the Roman goddess of Fortuna – a home nanny.
