Mummy portrait of Roman woman

Portrait of a mummified woman from Roman times, dated back to 150 CE. The painting was made on wooden panels that were in the grave of a mummified Roman woman.

The portrait was created in a naturalistic trend, popular in the Greco-Roman world. It cannot be concealed, however, that numerous embellishments of the deceased’s image were also used. After jewelry, hairstyle and clothing, it can be seen that they wanted to show it in harmony with the then fashion, in the Roman style. However, it is difficult to assess its origin. It could have Egyptian, Mediterranean or mixed roots.
