Romans died during the escape
The photo shows plaster casts of the bodies of Romans in the luxury home of Marcus Fabius Rufus in Pompeii. The placement of bodies on the stairs clearly suggests a vain attempt to escape during the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 CE.
The photo was taken in 1961.
