In the south of Spain (central Andalusia) there are remains of the Roman city Virtus Iulia. The site is located within the Torreparedones archaeological site.

The remains of the city Virtus Iulia were discovered in 1987. The city was established between 30-27 BCE, replacing an earlier fortified settlement built by the Iberian people inhabiting this area – Turdetani.

Virtus Iulia had large gates, a market, baths, an amphitheatre or a forum with a curia, basilica and temple. The city had numerous sculptures, including August, Livia or Caligula.
