Wonderful Roman garnet ring

Roman gold ring with precious stones – garnet. The object is dated around the 2nd-3rd century CE. Two hoops are connected by a spiral wire to the Hercules knot.

In Roman times, the knot was added to objects to provide protection to the wearer. What’s more, the knot of Hercules was important during the wedding. According to Roman tradition, during the wedding the bride was dressed in a white gown, tied with the knot of Hercules, which the groom had to solve.
