Discovered Roman center in northern England

In the course of ongoing construction works for a new housing estate in Poulton (northern England), was discovered a Roman resort.

According to the researchers, traces in the ground (on wooden stilts forming the base of the building) are evidence of the existence of a Roman center in this place, which may be dated to the 1st century CE. A similar discovery was made in 2008.

The remains of bulding and preserved ceramics belonged to a round house. In one of these houses there could be located from 30 to 40 people. Wooden elements have not survived because organic materials have simply decayed. There are only traces left in the ground.

Discussions and protests against the resumption of construction work are underway.
