The oldest Roman arch still in use by cars in Britain was damaged in 2017 after a lorry got stuck while passing by.
The Roman object is dated to the 3rd century CE and is located in Lincoln. The police managed to “free” the truck within half an hour, but as it turned out later, the object was slightly damaged. Stone fragments of structures were found on the road.
According to experts, in their opinion, there was no damage to the foundations of the building. To be sure, however, a team of conservators was called in to examine the structure.
The arch was the northern entrance to the Roman colony in Lincoln.
