New mosaics discovered in Roman villa in Bibione

Roman villa Mutteron dei Frati, hidden in the Valgrande forest in Bibione (northeast Italy), provides valuable data on this complex complex, which had at least two residences. In March 2024, archaeologists discovered three new mosaics, including one large one made of black and white tiles (tesserae).

The villa was probably a seaside structure, located between the Nicesolo Canal and the Tagliamento River. Ceramics (originating from Africa), coins and metal artifacts were found at the site, which allowed us to determine that the facility operated from the 1st to the 5th century CE. Moreover, the discovered objects related to fishing (e.g. net weights) prove that the farm was also engaged in fishing.
