This spring Mausoleum of Augustus will be open to tourists

After almost 80 years, the Mausoleum of Augustus will be opened to the public. The monumental tomb was built in 28 BCE and Octavian Augustus and his close family were buried there.
In the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, the remains of the buildings served as a place for concerts. Later, however, the condition of the building only deteriorated, as a result of which it was decided to close it. Lack of funds led to the collapse of the building. Over time, thanks to further funding, renovation works began, the effect of which was to make the mausoleum available for visiting, for the 2000 anniversary of the death of the first emperor – but ineffectively.

Finally, thanks to financial support from the Italian telecommunications company TIM and the city and the Italian Ministry of Culture – in the amount of 6.5 and 4 million euros respectively – the facility will be opened this spring.
