Nero’s Palace, the construction of which allegedly condemned Rome to a fire, can now be admired in a 3D display.
The scientists’ project will enable organized groups to enjoy a multimedia show on weekends showing what Domus Aurea – “The Golden House of Nero” – once looked like. The building was built during the reign of Nero and was destroyed in 69 CE after the death of the ruler.
Nero was the last emperor of the Julio-Claudian dynasty. He commissioned the construction of a large and luxurious palace complex after a fire consumed a large part of the city in 64 CE. Many contemporaries suggested that the ruler deliberately ordered Rome to be set on fire in order to build a beautiful residence.
Scientists believe that the renovation and works on the building will amount to around EUR 30 million, and the main goal of specialists is to properly protect the ruins. Only after that, it will be possible to take care of the remains inside the structure.
