Interesting Roman monument will be on display at Ceredigion Museum

An interesting Roman monument will be on display at the Ceredigion Museum in West Wales – the remains of a unique Roman vessel that comes from a Roman villa discovered in Abermagwr.

The villa was discovered in 2006 thanks to aerial photographs, and the excavation work was carried out in 2010-2015. Most of the finds from this place are glassware leftovers. The house certainly belonged to a well-to-do Roman family.

These types of objects were a manifestation of luxury in ancient times, and the workmanship proves the great skill of the craftsman. Moreover, Roman artifacts are a big surprise in this far out part of Western Britain.

Until now, it was considered that the Romans did not commonly inhabit these regions of the Island. Subsequent discoveries prove, however, that this was a wrong assumption.
