A fragment of the armor of the lorica plumata. Dated on the 1st-3rd century CE
Lorica plumata it was Roman armour available only to the highest command in the legion. It was usually worn by tribunes and leaders, due to the cost of producing such weapons and appearance.
This armour was largely a chain shirt (hamata) with small feather-like/scale-like plates (plumes) attached to rings. Certainly, the purpose of armaments was to present themselves favourably and to raise the morale of soldiers.
The photo shows fragments of lorica plumata armour that has survived to our times. Dated on the 1st-3rd century CE.
