Frigidarium and Pompeii thermal baths
Frigidarium – a cold water pool – located in one of the surviving baths in the Roman city of Pompeii. These bathhouses were one of the smaller ones in the city, but certainly also the most decorated.
Due to severe earthquakes hitting the area until 79 CE (Vesuvius eruption) only the forum thermal complex was in use. The baths are located at the intersection of Via del Foro and Via di Nolai and are also a complex of insulae (residential houses).
Baths at the forum in Pompeii were discovered in 1823. They are in exceptionally good condition. There are two sections: one for men and one for women. There were rooms with hot, warm and cold water for visitors. The thermal baths also had the so-called calidarium, i.e. a steam room, toilets and an exercise area for men.
