Model of Roman camp in Haltern

Model of the Roman camp of Haltern, West Germany. Currently, in the vicinity of the camp, there is the Roman museum LWL, where you can admire the mentioned model or the rebuilt defensive ditches. The camp was probably built during the Drusus the Elder campaign in 12-9 BCE.

Despite the fact that it is currently difficult to see any traces of the camp, scientists managed to estimate that it covered an area of ​​34.5 ha and was surrounded by a ditch and a wall. As no traces of buildings have been found inside the walls, it is suspected that the soldiers camped in tents. Perhaps the camp was a temporary one and was built for the duration of the summer campaigns.
