An example of Roman graffiti on a wall in Pompeii

On Roman walls, there were often inscriptions, which often did not differ from ours. Here are some examples.

Political: “Marcus Casellius Marcellus is a good aedile and a great giver of [gladiatorial] games”; events: “Hunting for wild animals, athletes’ performances! Water will be splashed, the veil will be open! Long live Majus, the first citizen of the city”; love: “Fonticulus – Small Spring – my best greeting to his fish” or “Marcus loves Spendusa”; various: “Hang yourself, Cornelius. Samius “or” Swine! Come to the wall! If you get caught, you will be punished. Watch out!”
