Roman theater in Orange

Roman theater in Orange (southern France), built in the early 1st century CE. It is one of the best-preserved Roman theaters.

The building was built in the Roman colony Arausio, which had the full name Colonia Julia Firma Secundanorum Arausio.The center was founded in 40 BCE The decision to build the theatre was motivated by the need to expand Roman influence and culture to new territories. The stage featured mime performances, poetry readings and theatrical performances.
