Amazing news spread around the Polish media. Scientists reportedly found remains of Roman equestrian equipment and legionaries’ clothing. Most artefacts were found between the villages of Gąski and Wierzbiczany (Kujawsko-Pomorskie voivodeship).
Treasure hunters found Roman items. They immediately informed the scientists about the find. As reported by Dr Bartosz Kontny from the Institute of Archeology of the University of Warsaw: “Among the many metal objects donated there were also numerous copper alloy fittings. It turned out that they were unique decorations of equestrian gear and Roman legionaries’ clothes. Many of them are unique monuments in this part of Europe”.
Archaeologists went to the area of discovery and found other unique finds. As Kontny claims, this is important proof that the Romans were on Polish soil.
It cannot be openly stated at the moment whether the Romans were actually in the territory of Poland, or whether their equipment was simply stolen. Of course, we are waiting for further research and evaluation by scientists.
