Aemilia Tertia – exemplary Roman wife

Aemilia Tertia, wife of Publius Cornelius Scipio Africanus and mother of Cornelia – who in turn was the mother of brothers Gracchi (great reformers) – was a woman extremely tolerant and moderate in behaviour, and above all behaved perfectly in the Roman approach.

Although she was aware that her husband was interested in one of their slaves, Tertia pretended that she did not know anything about the affair and did not accuse Scipio, who in the eyes of the Romans was considered a great conqueror.

Even after his death, Tertia did not decide to take revenge on the slave. Interestingly, she liberated her and gave her one of her freedmen as her husband.
