Cicero sensed Caesar’s intentions

Cicero

Cicero was arguably one of the few not fooled by the polite and pleasant manner of being Julius Caesar, and who saw the fierce strength of his character. In all of Caesar’s hidden plans and all political tactics, Cicero saw autocratic plans.

He sneered: “when I look at his hair, which is arranged with so much nicety, and see him scratching his head with one finger, I cannot think that this man would ever conceive of so great a crime as the overthrow of the Roman constitution”.
