One of the most famous coins of the ancient world - the Roman silver denarius of Marcus Junius Brutus with the words EID MAR engraved on it.

One of the most famous coins of the ancient world – Roman silver denarius of Marcus Junius Brutus with the words “EID MAR” stamped on it. These words refer to the date of the murder of dictator Julius Caesar – on the Ides of March – March 15, 44 BCE The coin was minted between 43 and 42 BCE.

When the obverse of the coin features the image of Brutus, the reverse features daggers symbolizing the murder weapon and a Phrygian cap (pileus) – a symbol of freedom, which, among others, was given to a slave when his owner freed him.
