Nero kept fitsenatorial body . In 59 CE in the gardens of his palace, he organized an amazing gymnastic and artistic competition – Ludi Iuvenales – for senators and equites , which shocked the conservatives. Mostly young aristocrats (the so-called Augustiani ) took part.
