The fresco depicts a mythological scene from the life of Heracles—one of the most famous Greek heroes—and the Lydian queen Omphale. According to the myth, after performing great deeds, Heracles was punished by the gods and sold into slavery to the queen. Omphale, fascinated by his strength and valor, made him her servant, tasking him with women’s labor and clothing, while she donned his lion skin and wielded his club.
