Roman legionary mask
This post is also available in: Polish (polski)
Legionary’s mask, found in the town of Kalkriese (Germany), the alleged site of the battle in the Teutoburg Forest in 9 CE, which took place between Germanic tribes led by Arminius and Roman legions led by Varus.
Mask is made of iron, it was covered with a silver coating, which has survived only in a few places. Mask was attached to the helmet with hinges (the place after them is visible on the mask’s forehead). Thanks to her, the rider’s head was protected from all sides. It was probably used during the fight.
