In Yorkshire (northern England) was found one of the earliest established Roman settlements ever found in this region. As it turns out, this place has been known for a long time, but archaeologists deliberately hid information in order to not allow illegal seekers to disturb the work.

The first signal that an important excavation site was located here, was excavated three years ago by amateur treasure hunters silver Roman coins, about 2, 000 years old. In total, 18 coins were found. The discovery was kept in secret until the funds for the excavations were obtained and the scientists could start further exploration of the site.

As it turns out, all coins are dated to the times of Vespasian’s rule (69-79 CE). Then the Romans marched further north of Britain and founded the center. Researchers found i.e. graves in which there were children’s remains with jewelry (including a brooch).

According to the researchers, hitherto managed to find such centers in Yorkshire, dated to the 3rd-4th century CE. Thus, the latest discovery is the oldest in the county.
