Roman fresco showing Amor and Psyche
Roman fresco depicting Amor (god of love) and Psyche in a loving embrace. The object adorned the House of Terentius Neo (Regio VII, 2, 6) in Pompeii. Currently, the artifact is in the National Archaeological Museum of Naples.
Psyche was a beautiful goddess and personified the human soul. Venus (the goddess of beauty), jealous of Psyche’s beauty, told Amor to make the goddess fall in love with the ugliest man on earth. However, he himself fell in love with Psyche, and finally became her husband.
