Fingers and Temple of Hercules in Amman
The bent fingers that were once part of Hercules’ large dowry. The statue was probably even 12 meters high and was located in front of the Temple of Hercules in Amman (Jordan).
The statue in question was perhaps the largest marble statue of its kind in history to have been damaged by an earthquake. Only three fingers and an elbow have survived.
The temple was built between 162-166 CE, that is during the reign of Emperor Marcus Aurelius. The building was 30 meters long and 24 wide. Its portico faced east and was surrounded by about 10 meters high columns.
Scientists believe that the fact that no more columns have survived, it is possible that the building has not been fully completed.
