“Parthian shot”

Sometimes an important event from the history of ancient Rome caused that the English language appeared with a reference to this event.

For example, the term “parting shot” is commonly used, which in the literal sense means barbed comment issued as the speaker departs or the conversation comes to an end. “Parthian shot” goes back to the disaster of Crassus under Carrahe in 53 BCE, when Parthian archers horses decimated Roman legions.
