The area around today’s Derby was once a Roman city with hundreds of people. As it turns out, it was the earliest organized centre in the area.
Archaeological work brought to light interesting finds, incl. traces of the first Roman mosaic discovered in Derbyshire. In recent days, it was decided to put 11 of the most interesting finds to the public, including decorative ceramics and bone hairpins.
Work was carried out around the Roman fort, built around 80 CE, on the site where the city centre was built.
