The ruins of Horrea Piperataria – former storehouses used to store valuable spices from Asia and Egypt, such as pepper, cardamom and anise – are located in the Parco Archeologico del Colosseo in Rome. These buildings also housed incense, which played a crucial role in religious ceremonies and medicinal practices.

The building was organized around open courtyards with porticoes. Goods were stored on several floors, as evidenced by traces of staircases.
In ancient Rome, spices were not just a culinary luxury. It was status, ritual and medicine all in one.

Since December 2024, visitors can explore this site by walking along a suspended glass walkway laid over the archaeological remains.
