Bust of the emperor Tiberius, who ruled in the years 14-37 CE. The artifact is in the National Archaeological Museum in Naples.
The reign of Tiberius was a period of peace and good state management for ordinary people in the provinces, but for the spheres of the Roman aristocracy, it was a time of increasing tyranny and terror. Tiberius was also the emperor who moved more away from Octavian’s “comedy of the Republic” in favor of more autocratic rule.
