This is a fragment of a letter from Hostilius Flavianus to Flavius Cerialis the Commanding Officer of the IX Cohort of Batavians who were stationed at legionnaires’ camp by the Hadrian’s wall in about 100-105 CE. He wishes him “a fortunate and happy New Year.”
