Roman surgical scissors
Roman surgical scissors

Roman surgical scissors used within 2nd century BCE to 5th century CE.

Bronze with an alloy of copper and tin was a metal often used to create surgical instruments in Roman times. Such items were durable and strong.

The scissors in the photo were probably used to cut the tissue. Now corroded, it once possessed a shiny, polished surface.
